Storytelling in the time of COVID-19

The Neighborhood Theatre Project is committed to creating opportunities for dialogue around life and community in our current time. Amidst the isolation and distancing brought about by COVID-19, stories can connect us and create an opportunity to discover new modes of self-expression.

Introducing NTP’s Stories from a Distance - a project to share stories and facilitate connection in these challenging times. Do you have a story about a way your life has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic? Interested in sharing your story with others? Every Monday we will post a selection of stories on this blog.

What is a ‘Story from a Distance?’ Stories come in all shapes and sizes! Our work as a company is rooted in discovering and sharing stories through interview-based, verbatim theatre. Through Stories from a Distance, we aim to explore and support any form of storytelling that may comfort or inspire you. Some options may include (but are certainly not limited to)

  • written format (story, poem, journal entry, script)

  • video, image w/ caption, or audio recording

  • an interview you conduct OR recorded conversation between you and a family member, friend, housemate, partner, colleague, or neighbor (to name a few)

  • a piece of art, a joke, a song, or a comic strip

Don’t feel inspired to create a story? Rather have a conversation? Along with sharing submitted stories, NTP will also be conducting interviews as an additional medium to connect and share experiences. With your consent, we will then share your interview on the blog. Just select that option below!

I’ve got a story! How do I share? To send us a story or to reach out for an interview, simply submit on our form below. There is no deadline to submit and our mailbox is always open.

The Neighborhood Theatre Project’s core values include access, equity and inclusion. With regard to our values, we will not post anything that includes hateful, violent or incendiary language.

(if you would prefer to submit a storytelling medium other than text, please use this separate form)

Questions? Contact us here. We look forward to connecting with you across this distance.
